FF16 director says it’s ‘probably likely’ that future Final Fantasy games launch on PC day 1

Final Fantasy 16 director Hiroshi Takai has said that he thinks it’s likely that future entries in the series will be released on PC on day 1.

Speaking to GamesRadar+, Hiroshi Takai spoke to the decision to bring the game to PC over a year after the release of the PlayStation 5 game.

Asked about the potential for future games in the Final Fantasy series to launch at the same time across multiple platforms, Takai said: “I think it’s possible – probably even likely.”

He then added, “That said, the team in charge of each project gets to decide its own policy, so this is just my personal opinion.”

Originally released for PS5 in June 2023, FFXVI will make the jump to PC on September 17, 2024, with the base game priced at $49.99 / £44.99 via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Final Fantasy 16 Complete Edition, which includes the base game plus its story expansions Echoes of the Fallen and The Rising Tide, is priced at $69.99 / £64.99.

Square Enix has this week also launched a free demo for the PC version of the game.

“Naturally, we wanted to get the PC version into players’ hands as quickly as we possibly could,” he continued.

“We don’t get anything out of delaying its release either. That said, I don’t think there’s much more we could have done to speed up the porting process. Looking at the results, I think the time we’ve put into optimizing the game for PC was time well spent.”
