Fallout creator Tim Cain is consulting on The Outer Worlds 2

Fallout creator Tim Cain is consulting on The Outer Worlds 2, it’s been revealed.

The veteran game developer, best known for his work on the post-apocalyptic RPG franchise, is working with Obisian on its upcoming sequel.

Speaking to Rock, Paper, Shotgun, Cain said, “There’s stuff they’re trying to do in the sequel, that of course I can’t talk about, that I get pulled in on because it’s similar to stuff I’ve done in the past.

“Sometimes it’s just me saying, ‘I’m not gonna tell you what to do, but here are the pitfalls. Here are some of the huge, huge chasms that lie in your way, that you’re gonna have to wend around.”

Cain, alongside Fallout co-creator Leonard Boyarsky, served as co-director of the first game, which was widely praised.

Later in the interview, Cain praised a member of the Obsidian team for apparently figuring out a problem that the developer has been looking to resolve since his time on the Fallout franchise.

“I not only told him how impressed I was, I found my notes from 28 years before,” Cain said. “I said, ‘Let me read you a few lines from a production meeting in July of ‘95…’”

The Outer Worlds 2 was announced in 2021 with a trailer claiming that the game was nowhere near ready. The trailer, which essentially only featured the game’s logo, is the last significant update Obsidian has shared about the game.

Obsidian’s main focus is currently 2024’s Avowed, a fantasy RPG that is set to launch on console, PC, and Xbox Game Pass later this year.
