EA Sports says there’ll be no F1 26, with F1 25 getting a paid 2026 season expansion instead
An “all-new” and “reimagined” F1 game will release in 2027, the publisher says
EA Sports has announced that there will be no new F1 game next year.
Since it acquired F1 series developer Codemasters in 2021, EA has released annual F1 games every year – F1 2021, F1 22, F1 23, F1 24 and F1 25.
Next year, however, there will be no F1 26, with EA instead opting to release a paid expansion for the current title, F1 25.
“Since launch, EA Sports F1 25 has received praise from players, media, content creators, F1 drivers and more,” EA said in a statement. “Now looking forward, players in F1 25 will be able to expand their experience next year with the full 2026 FIA Formula One World Championship.”
The paid expansion, which will arrive next year, will “align with the sport’s major changes for the 2026 season” and will update the game with new cars, sporting regulations, teams and drivers.
The upcoming 2026 Formula One World Championship season is set to start in Australia on March 8, but EA has yet to officially confirm a release date for the paid DLC expansion.
The release of paid season update DLC instead of an entirely new release doesn’t appear to be the start of an annual trend – EA says the “next full game in the franchise” will be released in 2027, and will be “reimagined into a more expansive experience with new ways to play for fans around the world”.
“The refreshed experience will expand on what long-time players have loved from the franchise, and celebrate the passion of Formula 1 through a game that immerses both new and long-time players in the modern era of the sport,” the publisher says.
In a statement, Codemasters senior creative director Lee Mather stressed that the studio is still “fully committed to the EA Sports F1 franchise”, saying the decision to release a DLC update for 2026 allows for “the perfect time for us to look ahead and build for the future”.
“Our multi-year plan extends this year’s excitement with the 2026 expansion and reimagines the F1 experience for 2027 to deliver even more for players at every level around the world,” Mather said.
