Discord denies being served subpoena by Take-Two as GTA 6 leak crackdowns sweep the internet

Discord has denied being served a subpoena by GTA 6 publisher Take-Two as part of efforts to locate the source of the high-profile leaks that have spread across the internet in the last week.

Last week, a mysterious group known as ‘Cyberleek’ began posting what appears to be authentic gameplay clips from Grand Theft Auto 6, days before an official Netflix reveal planned for later this week.

Following this, reuploads of the leak across social media channels have racked up millions of views, with new clips purportedly from the same source appearing every few days.

Take-Two, parent company of GTA developer Rockstar, has done what it can to stem the flow of leaks, issuing DMCA notices to all platforms in an attempt to take down the videos of said leaks, though due to the nature of social video on the internet, they are still widely viewable.

Following this, Take-Two issued subpoenas petitioning Microsoft for information that could point them to the leaker. Discord was also subject to this subpoena, but now the platform has claimed that it has yet to be formally served with one.

“I can share an update on this,” wrote Ryan Rigney, marketing director at Discord.

“Discord has not yet been served with a subpoena from Take Two. When we do, we’ll evaluate the validity and scope before responding.”

The original subpoena asks that the platform share “all identifying information associated with all user accounts that are/were members communicating with the Discord server(s) listed below during the time period from June 1, 2026 to present; and for those accounts, provide any associated device/telemetry records where one or more of the tool/file artifacts below were present on the system.”

It requests: “For each returned account, provide: the account ID, registration email, registration and last-login IP addresses, phone number, linked connections (Google/Xbox/etc.), any associated device identifiers (MachineGuid/MSA), and content related to Grand Theft Auto (‘GTA’), Rockstar or Cyberleek from their OneDrive account.”
