Bungie has confirmed Destiny 2 will come to next-gen consoles
More details to come later, it said
Destiny 2 will be released for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, developer Bungie confirmed on Thursday.
In a reply to Xbox Series X’s list of development partners, the developer confirmed Destiny would be coming to “next-gen platforms” and that more details would be revealed in the future.
It’s possible that Destiny 2 could support Xbox Smart Delivery, the platform scheme that lets players buy a game once and play it across Xbox One and Xbox Series X.
While all first-party Xbox Game Studios titles will support Smart Delivery, third parties can choose whether to or not.
Destiny 2 is currently available for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Stadia, with players able to transfer their save files between platforms.
Asked in December if Bungie had plans to introduce Destiny cross-platform play, communications director David ‘Deej’ Dague told VGC that while it’s interested in “anything that would bring players together so that they can share their experiences”, managing its resources was an ongoing challenge.
“While we don’t have any promises to make about new features that will come online in the future, I can assure you that there is always a lively conversation at Bungie – as there was for years before we arrived at even cross-save – about things that we could do that would be good for players, and that we want to find the time and resources to invest in and bring to fruition,” he said.
