Civilization VII has seemingly leaked ahead of an imminent reveal
2K will announce a new entry in one of its “biggest and most beloved franchises” on Friday
Plans for a Civilization VII reveal have seemingly leaked ahead of a potential announcement at Friday’s Summer Game Fest showcase.
According to Resetera and Reddit users, a promotional banner for the game briefly appeared on publisher 2K’s website today, before being pulled.
2K said last month that it planned to reveal the next iteration in one of its “biggest and most beloved franchises” at Summer Game Fest on June 7.
Firaxis officially announced in February 2023 that the next mainline game in its Sid Meier’s Civilization series was in development.
Ed Beach, franchise lead designer for Civilization VI, is continuing in his role as creative director on the new game.
The next entry in the turn-based strategy series was confirmed alongside the announcement of a major shake-up at the 2K Games studio, which saw XCOM director Jake Solomon and studio head Steve Martin leave the company.
Martin was replaced by former Firaxis chief operating officer Heather Hazen.
“I’m thrilled to have this opportunity to carry on the studio’s storied legacy, beginning with the announcement that Firaxis is in development on the next iteration of the legendary Civilization franchise,” she said at the time.
“I’m lucky to be working with some of the best developers in our industry, and we have plans to take the Civilization franchise to exciting new heights for our millions of players around the world.”
The Civilization franchise has sold over 65 million copies since it launched in 1991, according to 2K. Civilization VI was released in 2016 and is the best-selling series entry to date.
