Civilization and XCOM studio Firaxis will reveal ‘several exciting projects’ this year
Parent company Take-Two says Firaxis has enjoyed “one of its best years ever”
Civilization and XCOM developer Firaxis Games is set to reveal “several exciting projects” later this year.
Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Firaxis parent company Take-Two, revealed the plan during the publisher’s full-year earnings call on Tuesday.
“Civilization 6’s daily active users have grown steadily since the game’s release more than five years ago and to date, the title has sold in over 11 million units,” he said.
“As a result of the engagement from the past as well as the success of XCOM Chimera Squad and XCOM 2 on Switch, Firaxis games had one of its best years ever.
“We expect this growth to continue as the studio has several exciting projects in development that will be revealed this year.”
In its earnings presentation, Take-Two said the 30-year-old Civilization franchise has now shipped over 57 million units.
It also provided updated shipment figures for several other franchises including Grand Theft Auto (over 345 million units, 145 million of which are GTA V), NBA 2K (over 111 million units), Borderlands (approximately 70 million units), Red Dead Redemption (almost 60 million units), and BioShock (over 37 million units).
During its earnings call, Take-Two also announced plans to launch a new franchise from Borderlands developer Gearbox Software before April 2022.
And it revealed that it has delayed the first entry in 2K’s new series of NFL games.
