CD Projekt sets The Witcher 4 release target as it provides a rare development update
Witcher 4 “will be worth the wait,” says CD Projekt Red

In a rare update on The Witcher 4, CD Projekt Red has set a release target for the upcoming RPG.
In a social media video ahead of Gamescom 2026, CD Projekt Red reaffirmed its presence at the show and shared news on the next entry in The Witcher series.
“Our team here at CD Projekt Red HQ is hard at work on a brand new saga, one with Ciri at the helm,” said co-CEO Michal Nowakowski
“We have more than 500 incredibly talented developers working to create something truly special for you. The Witcher 4 features a huge and immersive open world, intense and action-packed gameplay, and a deep, impactful story that we hope will stay with you for a long time.
“Simply put, this is our biggest, our boldest and most ambitious game to date. Now I know you’re eager to learn when it’s coming. That’s the question we’re hearing from you all the time.
“So while we’re not showing The Witcher 4 at the event and we’re not ready to share an exact date, I can tell you this: The Witcher 4 is targeting a 2028 release window.”
The Witcher 4 was first announced during The Game Awards 2024. Since then, developer CD Projekt has repeatedly said that the game is full production, alongside other projects.
In June 2025, CD Projekt debuted a tech demo which it said was representative of what The Witcher 4 will look like on a base PS5 console, but didn’t show the game itself.
When some started discussing the footage online as if it was the first look at the game, CD Projekt released a statement calling it “a tech demo, and a first look at the cutting-edge technology powering The Witcher 4 – but not The Witcher 4 itself”.
“It showcases the powerful foundation we’re building in close collaboration with Epic Games to push open-world design further than ever before and the core systems and features we’re developing using Unreal Engine 5,” it added.
