Catan: Console Edition gets Switch version today
The board game adaptation came to Xbox and PlayStation earlier this year
Catan: Console Edition is now available on Nintendo Switch.
The popular multiplayer board game has sold more than 32 million copies since it was first published in 1995.
The game sees players taking on the role of settlers on an island called Catan, and competing to build settlements, cities, roads and armies to lay claim to the region.
Numerous video game adaptations have been released over the years, with the most recent being Catan: Console Edition, which came to PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One in February.
A Switch port of the Console Edition has been in the works, and is now available for $19.99 / £16.99 for the standard edition.
There are also two special edition versions available: the Deluxe Edition costs $24.99 / £19.99 and includes the base game plus five extra ‘Championship’ boards previously used in real-life Catan World, European and American championships.
The Super Deluxe Edition, meanwhile, costs $29.99 / £24.99 and includes the base game, the five Championship boards and the game’s first expansion, The Helpers.
The expansion adds 12 new characters called Helpers, who each have specific skills which players can use to gain an advantage in developing their communities.
The game can be played in local or online multiplayer, and there’s also a single-player mode where players can take on AI opponents, each with their different play styles and strategies.
As with the other versions of Catan: Console Edition, the Switch version will support the Card Companion, which players can access on their phone.
This allows a group of players to play a local competitive game on the TV without anyone else seeing what cards they have.
