Another console is being replicated in building blocks, but it’s not from Lego this time.

Mattel has announced that it will be releasing a recreation of the original Xbox as part of its new Mattel Brick Shop brand.

Originally launched last year, Brick Shop is Mattel’s answer to Lego’s adult collector sets, and uses the same connecting stud system (meaning it’s compatible with Lego bricks).

Until now Brick Shop sets have solely been focused on larger versions of cars that have featured in its Hot Wheels brand, but now the brand is expanding to other sets, including a Masters of the Universe Skeletor Bust and Havoc Staff.

One of these new sets is the original Xbox, which is set for release in October and is priced at $330 / £295.

Consisting of 3,509 pieces, the set is a complete 1:1 recreation of the original Xbox console, as well as ‘The Duke’ controller.

It also includes three small diaoramas based on three of the console’s best games – Halo: Combat Evolved, The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind and Psychonauts – which can be removed and showcased individually.

The console will include a number of interactive features, including flashing lights and working buttons on the controller, which are used to activate other set-pieces.

“As builders press the controller’s buttons, hidden scenes from the three games come to life with illuminated lighting effects accompanied by its corresponding in-game soundtrack,” Mattel says. “Fans can also discover a hidden button combination that triggers an exclusive lighting sequence.”

In a statement, Mattel’s global head of vehicles and building sets Ted Wu said: “As with every Mattel Brick Shop project, we obsessed over every detail to faithfully recreate the original Xbox console, creating a collectible build that celebrates one of gaming’s most influential consoles while rewarding fans with authentic features and hidden details to discover.”

Mattel is also set to release a recreation of the Warthog from Halo as part of the Brick Shop series. This 1:22 scale model costs $76 / £70, is also set to release in October, and contains 935 pieces including metal wheel covers and a matching metal 1:64 scale toy car.

This is the second Xbox console to be recreated in brick form. Mattel’s previous brick brand Mega sold a 1,342-piece recreation of the Xbox 360 console, complete with working lights, a removable hard drive and side shell panels to reveal an interactive interior.
