Bravely Default producer teases an announcement later this year
Tomoya Asano says there will be “developments in the Bravely series”
The producer of the Bravely series has teased that a new announcement is coming later this year.
A message was posted on the official Bravely Default account on X (as spotted by user Stealth), to celebrate the third anniversary of the latest game in the series, Bravely Default 2.
The message, written by producer Tomoya Asano, suggests that a new announcement related to the series will be coming later in 2024.
After thanking players for their messages about the game, Asano added: “This year we will be able to tell you about some developments in the Bravely series, so please keep your eyes peeled.”
Asano produced all three games in the Bravely series, starting with the original Bravely Default, which was released on 3DS in 2012.
The critically acclaimed RPG – which was published by Square Enix in Japan and Nintendo overseas – has players controlling a group of four protagonists who are trying to gather four elemental crysals to prevent them being taken by dark forces.
The game received a direct 3DS sequel, Bravely Second: End Layer, in 2015, which was set two and a half years after the events of the first game.
Finally, a third game, named Bravely Default 2, was released on Switch and PC in 2021 and offered a completely new story with a new setting and cast of characters.
It’s not yet clear, then, whether the project set to be announced will be an entirely new game or a remaster of the previous 3DS-exclusive entries in the series.
All three games have been well-received by critics, with all three scoring Metactritic averages of over 80.
