Black Ops Cold War reveals a new PlayStation exclusive Zombies mode called Onslaught
It won’t be available for Xbox and PC players until November 2021
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will launch with a PlayStation exclusive Zombies mode called Onslaught.
While the wider Zombies offering will be available for all platforms at launch, Xbox and PC players won’t be able to play Onslaught until November 1, 2021.
“Dark Aether anomalies have infested familiar locations across the globe with hordes of the undead in an all new Zombies experience – Onslaught,” reads the official blurb.
“Grab a teammate in this 2-player co-operative experience and fight off wave after increasingly difficult wave of zombies. You have one goal… survive. Fight hard enough and you’ll reap exclusive rewards.”
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Special Ops Survival mode was exclusive to PS4 for one year before being made available to Xbox One and PC players earlier this month.
In response to fan frustration over the announcement of Survival mode’s PS4 timed exclusivity, Infinity Ward narrative director Taylor Kurosaki claimed last year that it represents only a “sliver” of the game’s wider Spec Ops offering. It’s likely that this is also the case with Black Ops Cold War’s Zombies Onslaught mode.
Black Ops Cold War’s Zombies offering features a new story led by fresh characters in a different time period.
Traditional Zombies elements return in the form of four-person co-op, round-based survival, Perks, the Pack-a-Punch machine, Wall Buys, and the Mystery Box.
But for the first time players will be able to start Zombies matches with weapons they’ve unlocked and upgraded rather than the standard starter pistol. And a new optional exfiltration system means the game doesn’t have to end in death as has previously been the case.
Zombies also feature in The Haunting of Verdansk, the new Halloween-themed event for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone.
Activision said earlier this week that the recent Black Ops Cold War beta was the most downloaded in Call of Duty history.
