BioWare shows how progression works in Dragon Age The Veilguard

BioWare has offered a deep dive into Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s progression systems.

In a blog post and an accompanying video, which is viewable below, the studio has detailed how the three main areas of progression in the game work.

These are skill progression, item progression and companion progression.

Protagonist Rook can reach a maximum level of 50, with the largest experience boosts coming from completing quests.

“Rook also gains experience from killing enemies and exploring, but gaining levels is most efficient when helping the people of Thedas or taking time to deepen Rook’s bond with the Veilguard,” according to BioWare.

Weapons, armour and accessories can be found or purchased throughout Thedas, and each item has its own stats and properties.

Players can also upgrade and enchant equipment at the Caretaker’s Workshop in the Lighthouse, to unlock additional effects for Rook and their companions.

Veilguard members have their own levels and each level gained unlocks skill points.

“Each companion will have quests to deepen Rook’s bond with them, and this is one of the main ways for them to gain experience,” BioWare said.

“Companions also can gain experience through unique conversations and decisions with them. These quests and bonds are not limited to romantic interests; platonic friendships are just as important and in focus in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.”

The Dragon Age: The Veilguard release date is October 31, 2024, for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

In a Veilguard hands-on preview published in June, VGC said the new Dragon Age could be BioWare back at its best.
