BioWare releases new Mass Effect 4 teaser on N7 Day

BioWare has marked its annual N7 Day by publishing a new Mass Effect 4 teaser, which is viewable below.

The studio established N7 Day in 2012 and it has since become a yearly celebration of the Mass Effect series and its community.

“Whether it’s one of the many who have been here since the original game’s launch or those recently joining us at BioWare, we are all incredibly lucky to be envisioning this future,” Mass Effect franchise director and executive producer Mike Gamble said in a blog published on Tuesday.

“That process is equal parts rewarding and challenging. We’ve asked ourselves many of the same questions you’ve asked us over the years! What happened to everyone you know and love in the games? Who really died? Who had kids with whom? What does a baby volus sound like? What about all the galaxies? The endings! What the heck is going on with our asari scientist-turned-Shadowbroker? What about S— nevermind…you get the idea.

“And of course, to those questions, there are answers, but you’ll have to wait to hear them. And anything we do say won’t be easy to find, just like you’ve come to expect from our #N7Day teases.”

BioWare first revealed it was working on a new Mass Effect game in November 2020 with the release of a teaser trailer.

“We are in early stages on the project and can’t say any more just yet, but we’re looking forward to sharing our vision for where we’ll be going next,” it said.

Later that year, BioWare said a number of Mass Effect trilogy veterans had returned to work on the next entry in the series.

It confirmed last July that veteran narrative director Mary DeMarle, the writer behind the modern Deus Ex games, had joined the studio to helm the story for the next Mass Effect.

This August, BioWare said it was laying off “approximately” 50 people as part of a shift to becoming “a more agile and more focused studio”.

Its next release will be Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. Following the recent layoffs, it was claimed that the game’s release “keeps getting pushed back” internally. It’s reportedly planned to come out next summer at the earliest, but may get moved to late 2024 or early 2025.
