Bethesda has officially delayed Starfield and Redfall to 2023
The games will now be released in the first half of next year
Bethesda has officially delayed the release of both Starfield and Redfall from this year to 2023.
In a statement published on Thursday, the Xbox-owned publisher said it needed more time to develop the games.
“We’ve made the decision to delay the launches of Redfall and Starfield to the first half of 2023,” it said.
“The teams at Arkane Austin (Redfall) and Bethesda Game Studios (Starfield) have incredible ambitions for their games, and we want to ensure that you receive the best, most polished versions of them.

“We want to thank everyone for their excitement for Redfall and Starfield. That energy is a huge part of what inspires all of us every day and drives our own excitement for what we are creating,” it added.
“We can’t wait to share our first deep dive into the gameplay for both Redfall and Starfield soon.”
Both games are likely to feature during Microsoft’s E3-style Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase event on June 12.
Starfield appeared during last year’s Xbox and Bethesda Showcase, marking the first time it had been shown since its announcement in 2018. The event was used to announce a now-delayed release date of November 11, 2022, for the Xbox Series X/S and PC game.
Game director Todd Howard said in November that Bethesda could be expected to offer the next major Starfield reveal this summer.
Announced in June 2021, Redfall is an open-world co-op FPS also coming exclusively to Xbox Series X/S and PC.
Previously scheduled for release in 2022, Redfall can be played either solo or in co-op with up to four users. It sees players taking on a legion of vampires that have taken over the once quaint island town of Redfall.
The latest Starfield behind the scenes video was released in April. Titled ‘Sound of Adventure’, the almost seven-minute developer diary takes a dive into the music and sound design of the upcoming sci-fi RPG.
The video is the third in a series called ‘Into the Starfield’. In the first video, ‘The Endless Pursuit’, Bethesda developers discuss how the game is more grounded and realistic than the studio’s fantasy titles, but still capable of providing awe inspiring moments.
And in ‘Made for Wanderers’, developers discuss the process of creating realistic playable characters and NPCs, as well as the different factions players can join.
