Baldur’s Gate 3 launches on PS5 as the console’s highest-rated game yet
But its score could yet fall as more reviews are published
Following Baldur’s Gate 3’s critically acclaimed PC release last month, Larian Studios appears to have repeated the trick on PS5.
The console version launched today as PS5‘s highest-rated game to date, according to aggregation sites Metacritic and OpenCritic, with the caveat that only a relatively small number of reviews have been published so far.
The PS5 release has a Metascore of 97 based on nine reviews, putting it ahead of Elden Ring (96 based on 85 reviews) and The Witcher 3: Wil Hunt Complete Edition (94 based on 32 reviews).
Those early reviews also make it Metacritic’s top-rated game of the year so far, ahead of the PC version of Baldur’s Gate 3 (96 based on 92 reviews) and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (96 based on 146 reviews).
Baldur’s Gate 3 currently tops OpenCritic’s list of highest-rated PS5 games too, with a score of 96, ahead of Elden Ring (95) and God of War Ragnarök (94).
The PS5 version of Baldur’s Gate 3 was made available on September 2 for Collector’s Edition and Digital Deluxe Edition players, ahead of its general release today.
Larian released the game’s latest hotfix on Monday, which included several fixes for just PS5 players.
“We’ve fixed graphical issues on HDR TVs, an issue in which game audio on PS5 stopped working, and a crash that would occur when opening the onscreen keyboard,” the studio said.
A delayed Xbox version of Baldur’s Gate 3 will arrive later this year after split-screen co-op was removed as a feature on Series S.
