A remaster of Quake 2 will be announced at Quakecon, it’s been claimed.

That’s according to reliable leaker billbil-kun, who claims that the game – which was first noticed earlier this year as part of a ratings board listing – will be officially unveiled during Quakecon.

According to the report, it’s not clear if the game will be subtitled “Remastered,” or “Enhanced,” as the listings that have been seen by billbil-kun refer to both names.

Quake Enhanced was released in 2021, so it’s possible that the game will follow the same naming convention. The game will reportedly be released on PC , PS5 , PS4 , Xbox One , Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch.

It will be a different release to Quake II RTX, the enhanced ray-tracing-enabled version of Quake II released by Nvidia in 2019.

After three years of digital-only events, QuakeCon 2023 will mark the return of the in-person at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Grapevine, Texas from Thursday, August 10 to Sunday, August 13.

“QuakeCon is our favorite event of the year, and we can’t wait to finally see our incredible QuakeCon community in-person again, celebrate games, and frag all weekend with thousands of friends,” said Marty Stratton, studio head at id Software.

“For our first year back, QuakeCon 2023 is focusing on the fan-favourite event and the players that made QuakeCon the best gaming gathering for more than 25 years.”

The event has seen smaller reveals over the past years, as Bethesda focuses on its catalog titles, rather than its huge games, but this coud make it the perfect venue for the reveal of something like Quake 2 Enhanced.
