A new 15-minute trailer of Black Myth: Zhong Kui shows the game’s combat in action

Game Science has released a 15-minute trailer showing footage from Black Myth: Zhong Kui.

Last year the Chinese studio announced during Gamescom‘s Opening Night Live show that it was working on a second game in the Black Myth series, after the commercially successful Black Myth: Wukong.

At the time, Game Science stated that the game was still in very early development, and that no in-game footage was available as a result.

The studio’s policy is to update players on its latest projects on August 20 every year, however, which is why it has now published the first lengthy gameplay footage from Black Myth: Zhong Kui.

“The trailer offers a first look at the protagonist in combat, along with a glimpse of the story,” Game Science posted on X. “As the game is still in early development, all footage was captured in-game from a work-in-progress build running at a 21:9 aspect ratio. The final release may differ.”

In a FAQ section on the game’s official site, Game Science stressed: “The promotional footage we’re sharing this early may naturally differ from the final release – some of what we’re exploring is still experimental.”

Explaining the game further, the studio added: “As the name suggests, Black Myth: Zhong Kui is also rooted in ancient Chinese mythology and folklore. Second, it will once again be a proper single-player action RPG, following the same business model as before.

“Furthermore, as you may have gathered from the latest gameplay footage, we hope to preserve the many things players loved about the previous Black Myth title, while also eagerly exploring distinctive gameplay tailored to the new protagonist, cutting-edge technical features, and differentiated approaches to storytelling.”

Black Myth: Zhong Kui is set to release on PC and “major consoles”, with more details to come closer to release. This may still be some way off, as Game Science says: “First, the game has to be good enough to impress even our seasoned, seen-it-all colleagues. So yes, that pretty much guarantees it won’t be quick.”
