Before we get to the location of the Master Sword, you’re going to have to prepare yourself. There are a few steps you’ll need to take throughout your journey that will not only allow you to retrieve the sword, but also uncover the mystery around the Master Sword itself.

In order to retrieve the Master Sword you’re going to need two bars of stamina. If you don’t have enough stamina by the time you reach the Master Sword, then you’ll be forced to complete more shrines, or collect the ingredients for a potion that will increase your stamina.

You can actually see the location of the Master Sword from practically the very beginning of the game. It’s one of the first thing you see when you begin your quest, although if you haven’t played the game before, there’s no way you’ll notice.

The large white dragon that’s been floating around the game since the beginning is actually the location of the sword.

Why it’s on the dragon and the true nature of the dragon, we’re going to let you discover for yourself, but crucially, you’re going to have to get to the dragon’s back in order to retrieve it. If you want to learn more about why the sword is where it is, we recommend that you complete the tear quests.

To do this, you’ll need to wait until the dragon is under one of the floating islands in the sky, and then skydive to land on it. Once you do, the dragon won’t attack you, instead it’ll let you climb it’s back until you head it’s head, where the Master Sword is.

You will have to do this naturally during the course of the story, but you can also do it whenever you want, presuming you have enough stamina.

If you’re waiting to do it during the course of the story, it’ll be after you’ve dealt with the regional phenomenon.

Does the Master Sword break?

No. In Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, the Master Sword can’t break. That doesn’t mean that you can use it infinitely, however. There are limits on the weapon, and contrary to popular belief, it isn’t the strongest weapon in the game.

While Zelda Tears of the Kingdom doesn’t show this to the player, every weapon in the game has a set amount of damage that it can deal before it breaks. This durability stat is only referenced if a weapon has increased durability.

Once a normal weapon expels all of its durability, it will break, however, the Master Sword works differently.

Periodically the Master Sword will be “low on energy,” which is the game’s way to stop you from using it constantly. All you have to do to fix it, is stop using it for a while.

When can you get the Master Sword

You can technically get the Master Sword as soon as you have the paraglider, but it’s far from easy.

Due to the Master Sword’s location, you’re going to have to either get lucky or create an extremely powerful flying zonai device in order to reach it.

The White Dragon, which is where Master Sword can be found, flies significantly higher than even the highest sky islands, making reaching it in most cases extremely difficult, we imagine by design.

While there are a few moments during the loop that you’ll be able to land on it, you’ll have to be very patient as the White Dragon only moves when you’re actually playing the game, meaning that fast traveling or any other method to speed up time, won’t work.
