Splatoon is a third-person shooter series developed and published by Nintendo.
The game is set on a post-apocalyptic Earth, where marine life known as Inklings and Octolings have taken over and can morph between humanoid and cephalopodic forms.
The series typically focuses on team-based multiplayer matches, where players compete to cover an arena with their own color ink. However, the series has included single-player modes too.
The first game in the Splatoon series was released for Wii U in 2015, followed by Splatoon 2 (2017), and Splatoon 3 for Nintendo Switch in 2022. A spin-off game, Splatoon Raiders, was announced for Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025.
As of March 2025, the series had amassed more than 30 million sales, including 13.6 million for Splatoon 2, 12 million for Splatoon 3, and 5 million for Splatoon
