
Insomniac Games
Insomniac Games is an American game developer best known for developing the Ratchet & Clank Series, Sunset Overdrive, and the PlayStation 4 release of Marvel’s Spider-Man.
The company is based in Burbank, California. Originally, the company was known as Xtreme Software before being renamed in 1995, one year after it was founded.
In 1998, Insomniac Games released Spyro the Dragon after deciding to focus on family-friendly games with a mascot and mass appeal. A sequel followed with three games in three years. Universal owns the intellectual property to the Spyro series.
Insomniac Games exclusively focused on developing games for PlayStation consoles until 2010, when it partnered with Electronic Arts and started developing multi-platform games.
In 2019, Insomniac Games was acquired by Sony Interactive Entertainment to become part of SIE Worldwide Studios, which is now known as PlayStation Studios. The company is known for the Resistance franchise, Sunset Overdrive, and Marvel’s Spider-Man series.
