Remedy Entertainment

Remedy Entertainment is a Finnish game developer based in Espoo, Finland, and is best known for developing the first two Max Payne games, Alan Wake, Control, and Quantum Break.

The company was founded in 1995 by members of Future Crew, including Samuli Syvähuoko, Markus Mäki, Sami Nopanen, John Kavaleff, and Sami Vanhatalo.

Remedy Entertainment has focused on developing cinematic single-player action games and has developed its own game engines for its titles.

Remedy’s first game, Death Rally, was created in a company member’s basement.

After spending seven years developing the Max Payne series, Remedy Entertainment began focusing on a new project, Alan Wake, an action-adventure game inspired by Stephen King novels and the American mystery-horror series Twin Peaks. In 2010, the game launched exclusively for Xbox 360 before later being released in 2012 on the PC.

In 2018, a TV show based on Alex Wake was announced, and in 2019, Remedy acquired full publishing rights from Microsoft, including a €2.5 million royalty payment for the series.

In 2020, Remedy Entertainment partnered with Epic Games to develop two games, Alan Wake Remastered and Alan Wake 2.
