Digital Extremes
Digital Extremes is a Canadian video game developer founded in 1993, best known for creating Warframe, and co-creating Epic Games’ Unreal series of games.
Digital Extremes was founded in 1993 by James Schmalz. Leyou is the parent company that first bought 61% of Digital Extremes in 2014 and later increased its stake to 97% in 2016. In 2020, Tencent bought Leyou, including the stake in Digital Extremes.
Warframe, a free-to-play game which started development in 2000, was released in 2013 on PC and PlayStation 4, and on Xbox One in 2014, followed by other platforms.
Since being released, Digital Extremes has continued to refresh the title frequently. The game has received many awards, including the Steam Labor of Love award in 2017 and the People’s Voice Webby Award for Best Action Game.
