Capcom
Capcom is a Japanese game developer and publisher based in Osaka, Japan. It is known for its Street Fighter, Resident Evil and Monster Hunter games.
The company was founded in 1979 by Kenzo Tsujimoto. It has now become an international enterprise with subsidiaries in Hong Kong, London, San Francisco, and California. The name Capcom comes from ‘Capsule Computers’, which links to the arcade machines it manufactured when it was first founded.
Capcom produced arcade games Commando and Ghost ‘n Goblins in 1985 that were successful, and it has been said that the games “shot [Capcom] to 8-bit silicon stardom.”
In 1990, Camcom created Bowlingo, a coin-operated, fully automated mini ten-pin bowling alley designed for amusement arcades and successful in North America.
In February 2022, Bloomberg reported that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund bought a 5% stake in Capcom for $332 million. In 2026, Electronic Gaming Company, the investment company of MiSk Foundation, bought 6% of shares in Capcom.
